What file compression does is that, it allows the user to shrink the size of their data file in order to store, or share their documents, or images more easily. Don’t understand how this is possible? The method of file compression is fairly simple. It’s like shoving in, all the outfits in your wardrobe, into one tiny hand carrier. In file compression, all the extra data in your documents is removed, when a similar pattern between them is identified. Don’t fear, however, this does not mean that your data gets permanently deleted.

1) Lossless Compression: In this type of compression, the compressed file looks exactly like the original version and none of the information in the file is lost. This sort of compression is most helpful, if you are trying to reduce the size of data and programs.

2) Lossy Compression: For an even more squashed version of file compression, the Lossy compression will work best for you. It should be taken into consideration, though, that there’s only a few types of data working on this, such as video, graphic or audio files. With this type of compression, there may be some data loss, based on what the computer finds outmoded or avoidable. Although, this may not appeal you, the benefit of it is that you now have freer disk space.

Majority of users prefer Lossless compression unless the data files are too heavy. Both types, however, will fulfill your requirement of reducing the amount of space taken by your documents, pictures, videos, music, etc.
